Prof. Ogobara Doumbo scholars: call for applications 2024
Developing the next generation of African researchers
Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) and the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC) at the University of Science, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB), Mali, have joined forces to launch a scholarship programme enabling young African researchers to develop their knowledge and skills in the field of malaria research. In doing so, the programme will continue the legacy of the late Professor Ogobara Doumbo, who was committed to building research capacity in Africa. In 2024, the second year of this programme, a 3-month training is offered in the following fields:
- Molecular biology
- Genetics/genomics
- Clinical trials
- Bioinformatics
- Biostatistics
- Data management
- Entomology
- Malaria drug resistance
Over the course of the training, the selected candidates will be associated with MRTC researchers and integrated into teams currently conducting malaria research for the organization.

Who can apply? Eligible candidates include college students, recent graduates and disease control personnel aged less than 35 years from Africa, interested in the above-mentioned fields. Candidates should be available to be in Bamako from October to December 2024.
How to apply: Please fill out the application form and a selection committee will review the applications. The application deadline is 15 May 2024.
Financial framework: The scholarship covers the following fees:
- A laptop
- A return air ticket to Bamako, in cases where the researcher is applying from outside Mali
- Accommodation and subsistence fees to live in Bamako for 3 months
- All training fees
Selected candidates will be announced around 9 June 2024 during a symposium organized by the MRTC in memory of the late Prof. Ogobara.
